Working remotely, asynchronous and in person

Working remotely, asynchronously, & in-person

Customers of Atono work in all different styles. Some work entirely in the office or in physical team spaces, while others have remote teams in different time zones. Many work partially from home, and some are even mobile or nomadic, working from a camper van in remote locations.

We believe that Atono will help teams perform better in every work style, but we can’t really know that unless we try to work in nearly every style – therefore, we encourage our teams to experiment with different ways of working.

From home
From home

Most of our team work from home on a continuous basis. Atono will provide you with the equipment you need to be successful working from your home office, including a good monitor and a great chair. If you prefer using a rented office space rather than your home, Atono can arrange that for you as well.

Hybrid
Hybrid

Atono supports a flexible approach for those who split their time between home, rented spaces, and the road. All employees use laptops with necessary software to ensure convenience and security. When scheduling conflicts arise, especially due to time zones, the person traveling should accommodate any inconveniences. Wherever reasonable, we’ll work around scheduling issues.

In-person
In-person

Working in person has its benefits. We believe that activities like brainstorming, planning, retrospectives, and celebrations are often better in person. We encourage teams to work in person as often as they like using Regus, Spaces, or WeWork, depending on their geographic location.

Nomad
Nomad

Get a van and MiFi and hit the road. You are welcome to try it out until you miss a hot shower. Same rules apply as Hybrid above.

Common hours
Common hours

Our current common hours are 10 AM to 2 PM Pacific Time. That doesn’t mean we work four hours a day – it means you are expected to be online and accessible during that time for questions, stand ups, retrospectives, shoulder surfs, and so on. Where special accommodations are requested, we’ll do our best to make it happen without inconveniencing the team that isn’t out having an epic trip.

Best manners
Best manners

We ask all Atono employees to be sensitive and polite to others. Be mindful of different time zones and try to schedule meetings at mutually convenient times whenever possible. Simply treat others as you’d hope to be treated and it will work out.
